This was an interesting one to explore. I realised while writing that the world of a coin is so insular. It sees hands, pockets, table tops and drawers not really knowing much beyond that world. I found it wonderful to explore such a small portion of the world, a newsagent's countertop, lollies, the excited hands ready to shred the wrapper from it. Now I'm craving some sugar.
The coin chimed against the countertop, writhing in excitement as it was traded for a thick red strap twisted in matching paper. Before being counted off the scratched glass, it watched the greedy fingers extend around the lolly, jittering in their own excitement of a sweet delight. As it was shuttled into darkness to rest amongst its peers it heard the scuffled of paper stripped backā¦
