Object Writing: Seal

A glossy waxen emblem spent on a hefty envelope, an embalmed message, awaiting the glint of silver to realize each crimson words therein. Bold against the lifeless paper, dripped for a singular purpose, a loyal subject, cunnings hands, protecting whispers and encoded fables, as they are traded between exhausted wicks, flaming beyond the moons rise.

The word ‘seal’ made me think of a wax seal and I could have applied it to a wedding invitation with entwined initials, but I preferred the older use of the seal. How it was used as a safeguard against prying eyes. That influenced a lot of the words I chose - waxen, glint of silver, crimson, therein, loyal subject, cunning hands, fables, wicks. It felt more in the world of the wax, than something more modern.

The only thing that really popped into my head that I couldn't shake was “embalmed message”. I thought of embalming like dehydration, the letter being protected and sealed, dry and lifeless.

Next time, I'd like to see if I can use more modern language within the paragraph and see how that would influence the story.
