Two crumbled pillars stood, staring across landscape that rolled like the ocean. Breathing a sigh, they slumbered in the damp soil, washing with the sounds of wind singing through each blade of grass as they nattered to the sun. Unlike their comrades, they were not swallowed by the earth, bedded beneath spring blossoms and curious rabbit. They lay exposed, harnessing sun and stealing the chill moon. Together they had been forged, two mirrored souls to grant entrance to a long forgotten lifetime. They harboured mirthful souls sheltering from harsh winds, and whose softened carapace was no longer suitable for life outdoors.
Contribution is a difficult word to work with. I could take it literally, talking about contributions in work, assignments, songwriting etc, but I don't feel like it gives me the freedom to dive into the descriptions very well. Instead I thought about what contribution was and thought of:
Two pillars
Pillars that contribute to holding together a structure, which led me to:
Ruins
So I decided to use broken pillars from a ruin, resting after millennia of bearing the weight of a home or community. The comrades is a reference to the rest of the building, long buried, blown away or absorbed back into the earth and the carapace is referring to humans and their soft skin in comparison to the strong stone pillars.
Anyway, a super fun way to dive into it! It's definitely interesting going outside the realm of being too literal and just exploring a metaphor for the word given.
